August 2021

"The 30 Days to Family® team recently provided services for 3 siblings, ranging in age from 3 to 11. After exploring everyone the children knew well and not identifying a close family member to provide care for the children, the team ventured out further to extended family. They identified a great aunt who, although not familiar with the children, was more than happy to open her home to her young family members! But wait until you read the rest of this story! (pg. 11)."

2021 United Way Giving Campaign!

'Make Every Move Count'

CMFCAA is a part of the United Way of Central Missouri Lawn Pawn competition! Staff, volunteers, and AmeriCorps VISTAs have been involved with decorating and preparing out lawn design! We will display our designs in front of our business so be on the look out! United Way is so excited to see all the creative designs that supporters come up with. The United Way Campaign supports 28 partner agencies that are helping the hungry, the homeless, the powerless...seniors, babies, adults with disabilities and families struggling to put food on the table or a roof over their heads.

The 2021 Campaign Goal is $2.2 million, and the theme for this year's campaign is Board Games with the slogan 'Make Every Move Count'. United Way of Central Missouri needs you to join the fight for the health, education, financial stability and basic needs of every person in our community because... Every Move Matters!

Would you, or someone you know, like to join the CMFCAA Team
or become an AmeriCorps VISTA with us?

Direct Services Takes Kids on Two Field Trips!!

CMFCAA's Direct Services team has had an incredibly busy month of Odyssey Events and Special Trips! The team was thankful to have been able to provide two field trips for the kids this month. While it was a busy time and a lot of work, the smiles on the kid's faces make it all worthwhile!

"The first field trip was to Springfield. We got to enjoy a tour of the Pythian Castle and learn all about its history. Todd, our tour guide, was full of so much knowledge! The second trip was taking the kids to St. Louis! This was super exciting since many of us (including the adults) hadn’t been to the Gateway Arch before!"

~Direct Services Resource Coordinator

We also have show tickets to four different shows available for our resource families from Starlight Theater in Kansas City, MO. If you are interested, please reach out to our Direct Services Supervisor, Christal Jones by sending her an email at christal@mofosteradopt.com.

Dollar General donated $1,500 to go toward our school supply care packs. Once again, we want to thank our community for your continued support

Community Connections Youth Project®

CMFCAA's CCYP® team is still working hard to ensure successful outcomes for young adults who are aging out of the system. Our CCYP® specialists do a wonderful job of providing the support and provisions necessary for youth to transition and thrive into adulthood. Becoming an adult can be overwhelming. Our resources help meet the most basic of needs; and we provide assistance in everything from getting a driver’s license to help with legal entanglements and learning how to live independently on a budget.

The team was able to assist multiple clients with housing vouchers, transportation, rent assistance, employment, and education opportunities this month including an apartment package for a young women moving into her first apartment, multiple trips to the DMV to help clients receive their driver's permit/license, and helping a young man get a new bicycle for short distance transportation. Our CCYP® supervisor, David, also took interested clients on college and university tours to make sure they know that option is available to them as well.

We currently have an open position in our CCYP® program if you or someone you know are interested in joining the CMFCAA team! CMFCAA's open positions are available to view on our website at mofosteradopt.com/now-hiring.

Kinship Navigator Department

CMFCAA’s Kinship Navigation Department gives great thanks to the Camden County Child Advocacy Council for their continual commitment to improving the lives of children and families! Inez Killiam, President of the Council, reached out to CMFCAA in mid-June searching for ways her organization could better serve the foster, adoptive, and kinship families they regularly engage with.

Working with Kinship Navigation Supervisor, Crystal Wilson, Inez proposed the sponsorship of shared clients by providing the Navigation Department with $1,000 towards the cost of Big Surf Waterpark admission and rentals for Kinship and Relative families during Big Surf Week!

The Big Surf tickets were paid for by the Child Advocacy Council and were given on a first-come-first-serve basis to Kinship families. In all, 12 families made up of 65 individuals are set to be the Council and CMFCAA’s guests at the event!
